Incentive for voluntary leavers in Korea

Filipinos workers in Korea whose E-9 visa will expire from March to August 2005 are urged to leave voluntarily.
Korea will prioritize the re-entry of Filipino workers who will leave the country during the said period under the employment permit system (EPS).
Voluntary leavers will be included in the roster of jobseekers and may re-enter Korea after six months from their departure date. The worker will also be allowed to return to his previous work upon the request of the employer.
Affected workers shall go to the Employment Security Center nearest their workplace and ask for a recommendation letter. Two copies of the recommendation letter shall be presented at the airport’s immigration counter upon departure for the Philippines. A copy of the letter shall be submitted to POEA for registration.

EPS workers to undergo apprenticeship

Starting April 1, 2005, Korea is implementing a 3-month apprenticeship period as one of the measures to improve the employment permit system.
Korea said the apprenticeship is needed so the worker may adapt easily to its culture, language and work setting.
Korean employers are required to pay over 80 percent of the minimum salary during the apprenticeship period.
Workers who will be selected may opt to accept or reject the contract containing the apprenticeship provision. Those who would accept shall undergo a shorter training period in the Philippines.
